Bluegrass Review Jan 6-Jan 12, 2017 (second hour) #1702

Poverty is a common motivator of bluegrass song lyrics, and early on, we play some great examples. You might think that the slew of pop songs known as standards and often played by jazz groups would not make good bluegrass. But in fact, they make great bluegrass songs. Later, we talk with Phil and Vivian Williams, recordists and archivists of northwest US traditional music. We play 1880’s northwest fiddle music with Scandinavian influence.
