Bluegrass Review June 24, 2017-June 30, 2017 #1726

Cold. In Bluegrass, the word frequently refers to emotion, not the temperature. We open with a few “cold” songs from different eras of the music. On the Gem of Bluegrass, we investigate what is traditional about bluegrass. (Hint: it has to do, in our view, with the overall playing style.) In part two of the show, we conclude our conversation with Gordon Castelnero, one of the biographers of Earl Scruggs: Banjo Icon. Gordon relates how, although considered a traditional artist, how Earl was always seeking new ways to use the banjo.
