Bluegrass Review March 25, 2017-March 31, 2017 (second hour) #1613

In the old days of bluegrass there were the happy sounding sad songs. But sad songs today frequently embody musical textures that are also sad. Our show begins with a couple of modernistic sad-sounding sad songs. Our Gem of Bluegrass offers recent reflections on the connections between jazz and Bluegrass. Later, we have a musical conversation with fiddler Suzanna Barnes. We recorded her at the home of Missy Werner, the leader of the band Suzanna plays in. Finally, we compare bluegrass treatments of two songs made popular by the iconic pop group, the Beatles.
