Bluegrass Review Feb 11, 2017-Feb 17, 2017 (second hour) #1607

The murder ballad, where a demented male lover for no known reason, kills his sweetheart has cast a long shadow in bluegrass music, and in our culture. Take the first two songs on our show today. Both are set on the types of settings the action in murder ballads take place. We listeners, knowing the type of gruesome acts that occur in these settings, have foreboding feelings. The Gem of Bluegrass focuses on the evolution in women’s voices over the years. Later, we play songs in which the season of Winter play major roles.
