Bluegrass Review Feb 4, 2017-Feb 10, 2017 #1706

We open with a couple of songs about hard work. In the first, the singer wishes he could get away from it. In the second, the prospect of always having to do hard work convinces a kid to do better in school. On our Gem of Bluegrass, we consider the song “Sitting on Top of the World.” It started out around 1930 as a blues, and lately, bluegrass and old-time artists have been giving the songs very bluesy spins. Later, we have a musical conversation with Laurel Premo and Anna Gustavsson, who play  and sing a synthesis of Appalachian and Swedish styles.
