Bluegrass Review Jan 21, 2017-Jan 27, 2017 #1704

Our program opens up with new bluegrass. Then, it’s our Gem of Bluegrass. Most Americans, whether or not they like bluegrass, have heard the tune Old Joe Clark. Because it is so well known by musicians, and because it is not that difficult, many have put their owns spins on the tune. We play a few, and the most recent by the Jim Hurst Trio, we play all the way through.  There’s an effective songwriting technique where the lyricist makes point by presenting related stories or related images, all in one song. We play a group of affecting songs that fit this pattern.
